  14.         This 'CHECKOUT' BBS distributes software for the sole purpose
  15.       of testing prior to purchase.  You've 24 hours to try the software
  16.       and determine that it is worth  purchasing, then you must  destroy
  17.       it.   The  BBS Sysop feels  that it is  unfair to  computer  users
  18.       that they are unable to evaluate software to see if it suits their
  19.       needs.  Many  users have purchased products by the way the program
  20.       'looks' on the box and have been extremely disappointed - and have
  21.       therefore wasted their money and (more important) time.  Nobody in
  22.       their right  mind would purchase a  car  without  test  driving it
  23.       first,  or  for  that  matter...purchase  clothes  without  trying
  24.       them  on, so how  can  software  vendors  expect users to  buy one
  25.       of their products without first testing it?  They will send copies
  26.       of their software to large corporations to test but seem to forget
  27.       there are also other users in the market willing to purchase their
  28.       product if it meets their needs.   This is where this checkout BBS
  29.       comes in.   This program is for evaluation only,  if you like this
  30.       product  then  go  to  your  local computer store and purchase it,
  31.       otherwise PLEASE do not USE or in anyway DISTRIBUTE this  product!
  32.       There are many advantages to purchasing this product including:

  34.       1) Technical Support: Software vendors set  up  technical  support
  35.                             lines  for  the  purpose  of  helping  their
  36.                             registered users get the  most  out  of  the
  37.                             product and help with any bug concerns, etc.
  38.                             It is to your advantage to be  able  to  use
  39.                             this (and the many features of the program).

  41.       2) Manuals:           Manuals are  a  very  important  part  of  a
  42.                             software package.  No book  or text file can
  43.                             replace the  original  manuals,  which  come
  44.                             with the product. This enables  the  user to
  45.                             get the most out of the package,  especially
  46.                             with the very complex programs of today.

  48.       3) Upgrades:          With  buying  the  original program, you are
  49.                             entitled  to  low priced or free upgrades to
  50.                             new versions, bug fixes, and 'enhancements'.

  52.       4) Legality:          Using a program  without owning a registered
  53.                             copy is illegal.

  55.       5) Control Of The     When  companies  who  create  good  products
  56.          Industry:          are  supported,  it  reinforces the need for
  57.                             good products and helps the company continue
  58.                             to create more  quality  products.   On  the
  59.                             other hand, companies who create substandard
  60.                             products have  two  options; either  improve
  61.                             their products or get out of the industry.

  63.       Until  companies come up with a better  way  of  allowing  users  to
  64.       test their products before purchasing, 'checkout' BBSs will continue
  65.       to make available products  for  your  testing.  Companies  recently
  66.       have started to head in this  direction and you can now return  some
  67.       products  to  the  company  if  you  are  not  completely  satisfied
  68.       (Norton, and a few others), but this does not remedy  the  situation
  69.       as the refund/credit takes a long time to get processed and is a BIG
  70.       hassle!   We feel that under the current software industry standards
  71.       of doing business, that evaluating software releases prior to actual
  72.       purchase is still the best solution.

  99.       of the software, to the BBS, he chooses them to be made available
  100.       as demos, to be distributed to those under the intention of fully
